Mold Remediation

Here’s the truth: Mold Remediation is a term invented by professionals like us in the industry. Remediation is defined as the action of remedying something, in particular the process of reversing or stopping environmental damage. If you’ve been told that you need mold remediation, it really means that someone has detected actionable levels of mold in your home. Actionable levels of mold indicate there is enough mold present in the home that could be a potential health hazard and/or represent a danger to the structure of the home. As a Homeowner, you want it taken care of fast!

Our mold remediation services are designed to discover the source of the mold and eliminate it fast and effectively. As mold starts growing in your home, it may be visible on walls, ceiling or contents but it also may be hidden within walls or inaccessible areas. Mold requires moisture (water) to grow and colonize. Many times mold goes undetected until a home inspection or occupants begin to experience symptoms of mold exposure.

Studies show potential links between mold and symptoms such as chronic coughs, watery eyes, rashes, headaches, and respiratory conditions.

If you suspect there is mold in your home, we can help. Call 1-800-SOLUTIONS today to learn more about our mold remediation services.

Our Approach to Mold Remediation

At Green Home Solutions we take a unique approach to mold remediation by specializing in using only plant-based enzymes to kill and breakdown mold spores. This allows us to successfully remediate mold from the home with little to no demolition of materials. Additionally, this gives Green Home Solutions the ability to treat contents in your home that would normally need to be disposed of.

Most other mold remediation companies utilize biocides to kill surface mold and still  require costly disposal of contaminated contents like furniture, mattresses and other personal items, as well as demolition & rebuild of affected walls, ceilings and other building materials.

Because every mold issue is unique, we always start with an in-person consultation and Visual Mold Assessment. During our visit, we want to understand your concerns as well as the areas of the home you feel are affected. With this information, and some specialized testing tools, we can give you a much more accurate quote that addresses YOUR unique situation. Here’s what to expect from us:

Visual Mold Assessment

First, we visually inspect for “Red Flags” indicating visible mold, potential hidden moisture within the structure, signs of ongoing or previous water intrusion and other conditions that could result in potential mold growth. We will often utilize non-invasive testing equipment such as infrared cameras and moisture meters to see if there is potential moisture or mold within walls or ceiling in your home.

Air Quality and Mold Testing

If we see indications of mold or potential “Red Flags” in your home, our next step in the remediation process is to take laboratory samples to confirm our visual observations. During the mold testing process, we will take air and/or surface samples to check for type and levels of mold spores present, following the Indoor Environmental Standards Organization mold testing methods and procedures. Remember, mold isn’t always visible, and may be hiding behind walls. In-wall sampling can also be performed without damage to your walls.  After we take samples, we submit them to an American Industrial Hygienist Association (AIHA) approved laboratory for an independent third party comprehensive analysis.

Mold Testing & Inspection

Performing Mold testing and inspection prior to performing mold remediation allows us to provide homeowners with a clear picture of the problem at hand. Through testing and inspection, we identify the source of the problem while also providing a baseline for post-mold remediation verification testing. Additionally, we provide preventive recommendations to help reduce potential future mold growth.

Mold Remediation Plan

If mold is immediately visible, we can give you a mold remediation plan and quote on the day we visit you for a Visual Assessment. If we performed a laboratory sampling as part of our assessment, we will generally have results within 2 business days, and will follow up either by phone, email, in person or some combination of,  with the results and a custom remediation proposal.

Remember, every mold job is unique! This is why we build a custom Mold Remediation plan for every home we visit.

Mold Treatment Process

On the day we start the mold remediation, Our licensed and/or certified technicians utilize a number of approaches to restore a building’s indoor environment to a state of normal fungal ecology. (Remember, there are always traces of mold in the air) While specific protocols may vary from project to project, the underlying basis follows guidelines from the ANSI/IICRC S520 and EPA. We use a combination of environmental controls to protect your home and prevent contamination of unaffected areas. We also utilize our proprietary EPA Registered plant-based enzyme product to treat your home. This process is VERY different from the competition, who often use biocides or chlorine (bleach) based solutions, which do not treat mold effectively.

With our EPA Registered product Oceanic, we can restore and preserve more building materials than conventional remediators. Our approach is direct, fast-acting and highly effective, and our product uses enzymes to kill and break down mold molecules. So, Your home or office will be restored to a fresher and more breathable space because we never use harsh chemicals!

Mold Containment

With up to 1 million mold spores in one square inch, mold can spread very quickly to unaffected areas in your home with even basic cleaning.  Attempting to treat it with a scrub brush or other conventional tools without containment can lead to further damage.

To protect the rest of your home from contamination, we use a combination of negative air machines and containment of the areas with mold, as necessary, to prevent the spread of mold throughout the home.

HEPA Vacuuming and Air Scrubbing

We also utilize High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) vacuums in conjunction with air scrubbers or negative air machines. Only true HEPA filters are designed to capture particles as small as mold spores. (Regular filters are not sufficient and can actually spread spores).

During the mold remediation, we use professional, industrial grade HEPA vacuums to remove surface contamination and HEPA filtration units to scrub the air and remove airborne impurities. This is how “We Make Air Better!

HEPA Vacuuming and Air Scrubbing

We follow the basic standards set by the ANSI/IICRC S520 – Mold Remediation guidelines and the EPA. Our EPA-registered solution is one of a kind, and treats mold by killing the spore and changing mold’s molecular structure from the inside using our proprietary blend of enzymes. After treatment with Oceanic your home will be mold free because we’ve not just killed the mold but removed the dead mold spores from the area.

Post Mold Remediation Assessment

Once our treatment is complete, we can refer you to a third-party testing service to confirm that it was successful. With the baseline provided by the initial mold test, you can see that we’ve actually removed the mold!
